Jan Špunda, Soloist of the Dutch National Ballet

Originally from Ostrava, Czech Republic, Jan began his ballet training at an early age and went on to study at the English National Ballet School in London on a full scholarship, supported by the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation.

His talent was recognized early in his career: in 2014, he won third prize at the Tallinn International Ballet Competition, and in 2017, he received third prize as well as the Outstanding Artistry Award from Dance Europe Magazine at the Youth America Grand Prix in New York.

Following his graduation, Jan began his professional career with the Bayerisches Staatsballett, before joining the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, where his artistry and refined technique led to a rapid rise through the ranks, culminating in his current position as Soloist.

Jan’s repertoire encompasses both classical and contemporary works. He has performed principal roles in “Romeo and Juliet”, “The Nutcracker”, “Raymonda”, “Diamonds”, “Emeralds”, “Four Schumann Pieces”, “The Four Temperaments”, “Blake Works”, and “Anima Animus”.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many of the world’s most renowned choreographers, including William Forsythe, Hans van Manen, John Neumeier, Ted Brandsen, Alexei Ratmansky, David Dawson, Jiří Kylián, Wayne McGregor, and Christopher Wheeldon.

Jan continues to expand his ballet journey, broadening his repertoire and performing at international galas.
